As the days get shorter and chillier, there’s nothing like warming up with a nice, hot mug of homemade spiced apple cider. Growing up, I remember how much I enjoyed a warm mug of apple cider after playing outside in the fall leaves. While the apple cider from my youth was full of added refined sugar, this easy recipe for spiced apple cider perfectly captures the flavors of fall with no added sugar or artificial ingredients.
Homemade Spiced Apple Cider Ingredients:
This recipe makes 8 cups of cider.
- 6 cups apple cider, no sugar added
- 1 cup orange juice, pulp-free, no sugar added
- 1/2 cup water
- 3 -4 whole cinnamon sticks
- 2 tsp whole allspice
- 2 tsp whole cloves
Instructions:
This recipe can easily be made using a camping stove, over a campfire, or on the stovetop at home.
1. If you will be using a percolator pot, remove the inner strainer baskets and stem and set them aside.

2. Next, add the cider, orange juice, and water to the percolator pot.

If you will be preparing the spiced apple cider in a stockpot, add the cider, apple juice, water, cinnamon, allspice, and cloves to the pot.

4. Heat the liquid in the percolator or stockpot to a simmer. If using a percolator, percolate gently for 20-30 minutes. When using a stockpot, simmer uncovered for 20-30 minutes. If the percolator starts to boil over, add 1/2 cup more water to dilute the cider and allow it to flow more freely through the strainer basket.
5. Strain out the cinnamon sticks and spices prior to serving, then pour into mugs and enjoy!
